Le Canada se retrouve dans un rapport de force commercial tendu avec les États-Unis.
Depuis un mois, Donald Trump menace d’imposer une hausse de 50 % des droits de douane au pays.
Or Mark Carney, élu avec la promesse de lui tenir tête, doit en principe trouver un accord avant mardi à minuit.
Il lui reste donc moins d’une journée pour éviter cette mesure, qui constitue un enjeu politique autant qu’économique.
Le dossier met en évidence la difficulté, pour le Premier ministre canadien, de concilier fermeté affichée et nécessité de négocier.

He therefore has less than a day left to avoid this measure, which is a political as well as an economic issue.
